PCB Launches Updated Manual of Good Pesticides Management Practices

PCB Launches Updated Manual of Good Pesticides Management Practices

“The Pesticides Control Board proudly launches its updated Manual of Good Pesticides Management Practices, commemorating 30 years of national training and certification. Available in print and free online, this illustrated guide empowers stakeholders to strengthen responsible pesticide management across Belize.”

The Pesticides Control Board (PCB) is proud to announce the launch of the updated Manual of Good Pesticides Management Practices (GPMP). This illustrated resource provides clear, practical guidance for the responsible handling and use of pesticides.

The Manual is available in hard copy for BZ $30 and can also be accessed free of charge in digital format on our website.

Strengthening Best Practices

Developed to support stakeholders across Belize, the Manual strengthens guidance and promotes best practices in pesticide management.

Its release marks a special milestone — the 30th anniversary of the PCB’s National Pesticides Training and Certification Programme, established in 1996 under the Certified User Regulations (S.I. No. 112 of 1996).

This flagship programme is implemented nationwide to ensure responsible pesticide management through structured training and certification of applicators, as required by law for the purchase and use of Restricted-Use Pesticides.

A Legacy of Commitment

Since the enactment of the Pesticides Control Act in 1988, the PCB has led training and awareness campaigns to sensitize farmers and the public about responsible pesticide practices. This long-standing commitment continues to guide our work in pesticide life-cycle management today.

The updated Manual was produced with the support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development through the Resilient Rural Belize Programme — a valued partnership that made this resource possible.

Why This Manual Matters

We encourage all stakeholders to use this Manual and strengthen their commitment to safe pesticide handling. Responsible use protects personal health, preserves our natural environment, and safeguards consumers.

Building pest management strategies on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches ensures prevention comes first, and pesticides are applied only when necessary and in the correct manner.

Protecting Families, Farms, and Consumers

Best practices in pest and pesticide management protect families, strengthen farms, and secure markets for safe, high-quality Belizean produce.

Thank you for your continued partnership in advancing the PCB’s mission: safeguarding the health of the Belizean people and the environment through pesticide regulation, capacity building, and the promotion of wholesome food production via responsible pesticide management.
